It was so much fun to watch my young learners in action last week as they prepared for and then participated in their first QAE Jog A Thon. We started this process by planning our class banner together. We dreamed up a list of things we would love to see fill on our huge white sheet, and then worked together during stations and choice time to make our class banner with all of these things on it. | On Friday, with our banner hung and our t-shirts on, we headed out to run! And wow, did we run! I was wowed by the positive energy and effort our kids brought to this event! They showed us all that they can be brave (this event is a bit overwhelming for many of our little learners), that they can work hard and persevere, that they are resilient. They encouraged each other and tried their hardest and had fun! Thank you, family members, who were there to support us! If you have photos to share, please send them my way so that I can add them to our slideshow! |
PBL ~ Who Am I?
This past week, we looked at ourselves as global citizens, and thought about how we are the same as and different than kids around the world. We read books and talked about some ways that all kids around the world are the same (they all laugh and cry, they all have hearts and love...) and different (they speak different languages, have different names, live in different places and have different colored skin...). We used flag pins to mark where in the world our families have lived, noticing the similarities and differences. | We worked with Ms. Amsel to finish our self-portraits. These masterpieces took a lot of hard work and focus to complete and look a lot like the artists that created them. ... and in class we drew ourselves doing our favorite activities. (see slide show below) To get ready for our final presentations, we will use these pictures this week to tell our table friends about our favorite activity. We will video this mini presentation, and then watch it and assess how we did using our speaking rubric. We will also set speaking goals for our final presentations, which will begin next week. |
