| You may have heard about Crumpled Charlie, a story I told on last week about an imaginary new student who heard unkind words from his classmates that made him feel crumpled. After seeing and feeling how crumpled Charlie felt, the kids said kind things to Charlie that made him feel uncrumpled. Charlie will hang on our wall as a reminder that we need to work hard to use words that don't make our classmates feel crumpled. If we do use unkind words, Charlie can also remind us that we can use kind words to uncrumple the feelings we have hurt. We talked about adding an "uncrumpler" to our class job chart to help with this important work. |
Writers' Workshop...
This was an exciting week for my kindergarten writers! As a class, we spent time stretching out words together and writing the sounds we hear. To stretch out words, we say the word slowly, over and over again, writing down all of the sounds we hear. After doing this together in our mini-lessons, many students took a risk and tried independently to stretch out their first words, using rubber bands to help them stretch the words out. These writers were then able to share their writing with us on the document camera, reading back the phonetically spelled words they had written! This week, we will continue to think of ideas in our head and then use pictures and words to write these ideas on paper to share with others. This week, we will focus on the strategy ~ writers make their writing the best it can be! They will be selecting a piece to publish, which I will scan and post on their e-folios. |
Readers' Workshop...
E-Folios Are Ready to View! | Ms. Colando's class teaching us the Waddaly atcha |
They are all up and linked and ready to enjoy! I will be talking more to all of you at conferences about your child's e-folio and how we can work together to use this website to capture your student's learning this year. In the mean time, check out the beginnings of your student's e-folio by going to the student e-folio page and clicking on your child's photo. Make sure to leave him or her comments about the work you view, and feel free to pass the invitation to view and comment on to interested family members ~ in Seattle and beyond!
