Science ~ Animals 2 x 2!
We had an exciting week of learning before heading out on Friday for Spring Break! We had our last Animals 2 x 2 lessons, spending time
as Scientists observing the bodies and behaviors of red worms and night crawlers and then comparing them to eau other. Cassie (aka Ms. Wiegand, our fabulous student teacher) and I have been amazed at the writing the students have done to record their Science learning. We have posted a few examples below. Your student's Science Journal writing came home on Friday and is also posted on the students' e-folios.

Social and Emotional Learning ~ Zones of Regulation
For the past few weeks, we have been teaching the kindergarteners about the Zones of Regulation. This curriculum teaches our students strategies they can use to be more aware of, and independent in controlling their emotions and impulses. It also is intended to help them start managing their sensory needs and improving their ability to problem solve conflicts. On Friday, students brought home the books they made to summarize this learning about what each of the four zones are and how they have experienced them in their own lives. They will continue to learn and practice these strategiies as they move into first grade and beyond at Queen Anne Elementary.
Project Based Learning ~ Idea Workshop
We were sad to wrap up our Idea Workshop work on Friday, but are starting to get excited about the African Savanna creation work we will embark on after Spring Break. At our last Idea Workshop, Olivia and her dad, Will, hung the results of our collaborative Peace Place project up over our calm body spot! | In addition to our last Idea Workshop on Friday, we had some creative time with our reading buddies on Tuesday doing an activity they do each Friday called a STEM challenge. Ms. Martin gave each group of 5 students a roll of aluminum foil and challenged them to create the tallest tower they could make, using only the foil and scissors. Fun! |
