Continuing To Use Our Non-Fiction Reading To Learn!
As non-fiction readers, we noticed the text features in of our favorite non-fiction books and learned the name and purpose of these features. We practiced exploring these features in some of our favorite animal books to learn about animals we are interested in, and talked about how non-fiction readers are able to make connections and discover passions when they do this exploration.
We also read about a dog named Balto, and the brave trip he made in Alaska in 1925 to help get medicine to remote Nome. We learned about and followed the Iditarod race, which honors Balto's journey and was happening in Alaska last week. After watching the finish on Wednesday, a QAE family with ties to the race came in to share their stories with us.
